"How to Race a Martin 16"
Special Seminar, Sept. 11

The Mobility Cup will be held Sept. 11 - 15, 2006, in Vancouver, B.C. Participants will take part in two fleets, Gold and Silver, according to experience.

From the very outset of the Mobility Cup, it was determined that the event must include participants of varying abilities and that the organizers would do whatever possible to encourage newcomers. This translates to a commitment to bringing new and inexperienced sailors into the event. Half of the available places in every year’s Mobility Cup are thus designated Silver Fleet, with an understanding that sailors will ultimately progress from this to the Gold Fleet. These are defined as:

Silver Fleet: for people that have never previously sailed competitively and those that have entered one or two previous Mobility Cup events and consider themselves inexperienced in such competitions. Silver Fleet participants must have a Sailing Companion onboard at all times, to provide coaching and advice as required. When accepting registrations, priority will be given to people that are new to the event, and more experienced sailors might be asked to move up to the Gold Fleet to make way for newcomers.
Gold Fleet: for experienced, competitive sailors. These people have previously competed in the Mobility Cup or similar events. They sail single-handed, under strict racing rules.

The Mobility Cup is always over subscribed, so we ensure that all sailors comply with the “three-time limit” rule. Basically, if you have competed in three consecutive Mobility Cups you will likely be asked to sit out the fourth or else placed on a wait list. However, these experienced sailors would find themselves very welcome to assist with the organization and hosting of the event! We could find a role for them, on land.

The Mobility Cup always has been envisioned as being as accessible as possible. The organizers are committed to the principle that anyone with a significant disability can enter. This means making places available for people that would not otherwise be able to compete for reasons of:
•  Financial means
•  Geographical location – i.e. with no Canadian affiliations
•  Coming from places with no active accessible sailing programs
•  Extent of disability
Anyone requiring more information about accessibility should contact us.

This Year's Event
