Sept. 10 Symposium

Over the winter, the Disabled Sailing Association of BC (DSA BC) spearheaded the launch of Canada’s AbleSailNetwork (ASN), an association of operators of accessible sailing programs across Canada committed to promoting and developing the sport/recreation of accessible sailing. Beginning with Mobility Cup 2006, ASN will host the first Able Sail Symposium on Sunday, September 10.

As Chair of the inaugural Able Sail Symposium, I invite program operators, boat and equipment designers and suppliers, volunteers and sailors to gather at this important forum to share their experience and resources. Through presentations, discussion forums, displays and product demonstrations, the Able Sail Symposium will explore:

Program Development: start-up and growth, fundraising, instructor/staff development, board development, program planning and volunteer management.
Accessible Technology: boats and equipment, facility design, assistive technologies for programs and sailors.
The road to the Paralympic Games: exhibits and forums will reveal the path from local to international levels of competition, present and future possibilities for sailors with disabilities,

I invite you to contribute ideas to the Mobility Cup Forum on www.ablesailnetwork.ca, and submit proposals for presentations and product or service displays, to stevealvey@ablesailnetwork.ca . We’ll accept submissions until July 31, and then we’ll develop the Symposium Program and post it here, on www.mobilitycup.org .

I look forward to your participation in AbleSail Symposium and a great Mobility Cup 2006 event.
