Features of the Free Spirit
It has a self-tending jib with roller furling. This allows complete control of the jib by a person sitting in the cockpit of the boat
The main sail is fully battened
It has a carbon fibre mast which is 3.5 times stiffer than aluminum and it contains foam flotation. The mast is unstayed which eliminates troublesome standing rigging and the danger usually associated with an uncontrolled jibe
The boat has port and starboard (left and right side) controls for the reef lines, the halyards and the sheets
All controls on the boat are within easy reach of both sailors if they are sitting in the swivel seats in the cockpit of the boat
There is a closable cutty for storage (below the bow of the boat) of wheelchairs and sailing gear
57 cubic feet of foam closed-cell, urethane foam flotation throughout the hull has been proven to provide total resistance to sinking, even when the hull is flooded
The custom designed swivel seats are counterweighted beneath the cockpit. The seats will lock in place and are released by hand
Waist and two point shoulder harnesses are attached to both swivel seats allowing people to be safely secured yet fully able to "swing" port and starboard.
The height of the boom allows headroom when tacking
Lazy jacks keep the cockpit clear
