Welcome to Sail Able Nova Scotia!

The Sail Able Association of Nova Scotia is a registered, non-profit organization that is managed and operated by volunteers.

Who We Are
The Sail Able Association of Nova Scotia has been offering disabled sailors the opportunity to go sailing in a modified 20-foot-long boat called Free Spirit since 1994. Read more about the Free Spirit here. Recently purchased and available for booking summer 2007 is a Martin 16. The Martin 16 is a two person, bob-sled style keel boat with an assymetrial spinnaker. Further information will be posted soon but you can also read more about the Martin 16 here. We are located at our new host club, the Dartmouth Yacht Club - 697 Windmill Rd, Dartmouth.

Sail Able Nova Scotia was pleased to offer sail training this summer. We anticipate having a sail training instructor on staff for the entire summer of 2008.

For the remainder of the 2007 season, both boats are available with a volunteer skipper. We have our lift system in place to assist those that require it for getting on/off the boat. Contact us to make the arrangements for your first lesson!

From the Commodore
Sail Able was pleased to co-host the Harding Medical Mobility Cup 2007 with the Dartmouth Yacht Club this year from August 27 to 31. It was a huge success, with 40 sailors from across Canada and around the world gathering for 5 days of great competitive sailing, friendship and fun. The weather largely cooperated and everyone had a great time. We would like to thank all the volunteers, the members of DYC, the sponsors and everyone that contributed their time and effort to make the first Mobility Cup in the Maritimes an unqualified success. Congratulations to everyone that made it happen!!

Sail Able is always grateful for donations of time and experience from the sailing community. We are always seeking qualified and experienced skippers to take our members out sailing. Any experienced able bodied hands to help with maintaining our growing fleet is also greatly appreciated. You can contact us at chair@sailable.ca to let us know if you would like to help.

Check back for information about the Winter AGM sometime in November. We are growing and we want to include as many of the physically disabled in and around Metro. We encourage everyone that is interested to join us and get sailing!

If anyone wishes to join Sail Able Nova Scotia, simply go to our membership page. Please complete the membership and liability waiver, then print and mail to the address indicated. 2008 registration will be available online in the coming months.

It has been a busy and productive year for Sail Able so far and we’re not done yet. Check out all the photos from Mobility Cup 2007 gallery and see what you could be sailing! We’d love to hear from you and show you around Dartmouth Yacht Club.
